If you have a Chipotle near you, it is a pretty decent ketogenic diet option as far as fast food goes. The flavors they have going on in some of their meats cannot be beat. Not everything they offer is keto-friendly, they definitely have a good amount of satisfying options on their menu that won’t break your diet.
Although Chipotle has some of the best fast food rice around, you’ll have to avoid it to stick to your keto diet. Avoiding the rice is easy to do if you stick to ordering the “Keto Chipotle Bowl”, as it is called around the web. If you know your diet restrictions well, it can be easy to piece together a meal here.
- Always Choose the Burrito Bowl or the Salad
The tacos and burritos have a ludicrous amount of carbs in them when you include both the tortilla and rice, so you’ll always want to stay away from choosing those when on a keto diet. If you stick to either a salad or a burrito bowl, you can avoid the carbs without sacrificing the taste. If you do order the salad, make sure you ask for no vinniagrette dressing, as it contains 12g of sugar and 19 net carbs.
2. You Can Choose Any Meat to Go With Your Meal
Every meat option on the menu at Chipotle is keto-friendly. The chicken, steak, barbacoa, carnitas, adn chorrizo are all under 2g of net carbs, while even the sofritas are only 6g of net carbs. Not to mention they are all pretty high in fat for their portion size. The calorie count is not bad either, so you will always be able to reach your calorie goals while incorporating their meat options into your diet.
3. Avoid the Beans and Rice At All Costs
The cilantro and lime rice has a staggering 39 net carbohydrates, while even the brown rice has 34 keto diet-destroying carbs. The black beans have a decently high carb count as well, at 15 net carbs per serving. The pinto beans don’t follow too far behind either at 13 net carbs per serving.
4. Stick to Low-Carb Toppings
Unfortunately there are only a few low-carb, high-fat toppings available at Chipotle, but the quality of the meat and lettuce more than make up for it. The good thing is that you can incorporate all of the following toppings into your salad or burrito bowl without worrying about breaking ketosis.
Keto-Friendly Chipotle Toppings:
- Sour Cream
- Fajita Vegetables
- Salsas (except for the one that contains corn)
5. Don’t Even Look At The Chips
Do we even have to say anything here? The chips always have a very high carb count, and can break your diet with just a few bites. There are many other keto-friendly options such as parmesan chips that you can incorporate into your meal from home if you need that crunch factor.
Most of the time you can let the person behind the counter know that you want the Keto Bowl with your favorite meat, and they will know what you are talking about. If not, you can stick to the guidelines above, and enjoy a guilt-free lunch or dinner option.
